SUPERMAN VS SPIDER-MAN - HERO IDENTIFICATION
This is the Spider-Man Hero Identification splash from the 1976 SuperMan VS the Amazing Spider-Man tabloid-size comic. There was also a Hero Identification page for SuperMan, as well as a Villainous Villains page for Doc Ock and Lex Luthor.
Although the credits state that Ross Andru penciled the book and Dick Giordano handled the inks, it is a well known fact that Terry Austin inked the backgrounds. As you can see in the detail to the right, Terry added his name to this billboard! It has also been reported that John Romita re-drew the Peter Parker faces and the face on this page has indeed been whited out and redrawn. That isn't proof positive that Romita did the correction, but, it does look like his handiwork. If you're interested, Daniel Best has written an excellent article about the SuperMan VS the Amazing Spider-Man comic on his BLOG. One other item of note is that this artwork was drawn actual size and has a image area of 9 x 12. |
